The Nyan Cat, also known as the Pop Tart Cat, is a gray kitten with a Cherry Pop Tart body that flies through space, leaving a rainbow trail behind it.
The term nyan cat can refer to any of the following:
- The animated .gif image.
- Any one of the YouTube videos showing a Nyan Cat animation and playing the "Nyanyanyanyanyanyanya!" tune. On average, these videos are about three and a half minutes in length, though 10-hour, 24-hour, and even week-long editions exist.
- Any of a series of video games based on the Nyan Cat OR the Nyan Cat NES game.
Other versions of the Nyan Cat also exist. Some examples include:
- The Americ-NYAN Cat - its body is colored like the blue, white-starred corner of the American flag, and the rainbow is instead red and blue.
- The Mexican Nyan Cat - unlike the "Pop Tart Cat," the Mexican Nyan Cat's body is a taco. It wears a sombrerro on its head and has a black curly mustache.
- The Nyan Dog. It is a cute brown puppy with a bagel body.
Trivia
- The Nyan Cat's first appearance was in the NES game Nyan Cat. In the game, the Nyan Cat must defeat his arch nemesis, "Waffle Cat."
- The Nyan Cat's theme song is traditionally three-and-a-half minutes long. The song was first associated with Pop Tart Cat in April 2011, via the famous YouTube video.
